Kai Havertz to make Chelsea debut against Brighton as fans spot team news hint on Instagram

Chelsea kick-start their Premier League season against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night.

After spending big this summer, the Blues will be hoping to make a winning start to the new campaign, with Frank Lampard looking to put down a marker ahead of this weekend's clash against Liverpool.

The clash at the Amex Stadium provides Lampard with a chance to hand competitive debuts to two of his six summer signings.

However, Hakim Ziyech misses out after sustaining an injury at the same stadium several weeks ago in a pre-season friendly, while Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are not in contention.

This means Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are in line to start.

And ahead of the game, a possible team news hint as been dropped on Instagram as the official Chelsea account uploaded an image of Havertz's shirt being prepared.

The post has caught the attention of many who are in no doubt that the club-record will make his first appearance since sealing his £72m transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

One fan said: "Cannot wait to see that Havertz and Werner Link up, goals are gonna be flying in today."

Another fan said: " I'm so excited for Havertz x Werner tonight."

Whilst another has made a rather bold scoreline prediction: "I'm expecting Chelsea to win at least 10-0 today."

Speaking ahead of the game, Lampard discussed what Havertz's best position could be.

"Kai with his qualities is flexible to play in different positions, I haven’t changed my view in a few days of seeing him," the Blues boss said in his pre-match press conference. "I think we can use his versatility.

"One of the pluses when I spoke to Kai is that he is very comfortable.

"He is not that ‘I want to play in this position, this is all I want’.

"He is potentially very happy to help the team, he can give us quality in different areas so it is not one that we have to nail down."
