Kai Havertz to Chelsea transfer breakthrough as Timo Werner completes his first training session

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea tipped for surprise transfer

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested Chelsea could swoop in and sign goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Frank Lampard is having some issues in the goalkeeper department, with the Blues boss dropping Kepa Arrizabalaga for the final game of the season against Wolves.

And, according to a fearful Wright, he might just look to fix the issue by signing Gunners keeper Martinez, who has impressed in the absence of the injured Bernd Leno.

Frank Lampard on impact of Champions League on transfers

"What frightens me is you look at someone like Frank [Lampard] and you look at what Chelsea’s doing, you just say to yourself, 'Do you know something? Can we prise him away?'," Wright said. "This is what worries me, simply because you look at what he’s done and how he plays, he is better than Kepa now.

"I think he’s probably better than Bernd Leno if I’m going to be totally honest, from what I’ve seen. I’d be gutted [if Martinez left]."

Werner's first Chelsea training session

Timo Werner has completed his first Chelsea training session since completing his £47.5m transfer from RB Leipzig.

On Sunday morning, the 24-year-old landed in London and was in attendance at Stamford Bridge to watch his new teammates secure Champions League football for next season with a 2-0 win over Wolves.

Less than 24 hours after witnessing his first live Chelsea game in person, Werner took part in his first training session at the club's base in Cobham.

It was a light session that included some work with the ball and one which the striker enjoyed as he uploaded an image on to his official Instagram account after being put through his paces.

"First training, first time wearing blue!" he wrote.

By the time the 2020/21 campaign starts, the striker could be wearing his favoured no.11 shirt at Chelsea as that squad number will become available now that Pedro's exit has been confirmed by Lampard.

Kai Havertz transfer breakthrough

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen following talks between the clubs.

Although, the only significant remaining obstacle is the Bundesliga side's asking price.

As reported by football.london, the 21-year-old Germany international has already signalled his desire to move to west London and will likely sign a five-year deal once the clubs can agree a fee.

Leverkusen are looking for more than £80million, but the Blues' starting point in negotiations is likely to be lower.

Havertz, whose current deal at the Bay Arena expires in June 2022, has already been sold on Chelsea's vision under Frank Lampard and has spoken to international team-mates Toni Rudiger and Timo Werner about a potential move.

And Chelsea confirming their place in the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Wolves on Sunday has strengthened their case to sign Havertz even further and they are the only party currently at the negotiating table.
