Kai Havertz tells Thomas Tuchel his favourite position and makes Chelsea admission

Kai Havertz has shared his delight over playing in the false nine position for Chelsea in their 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Thomas Tuchel put the German in the centre of the Blues ' attack and the £71million-man repaid his countryman's faith with a fine display at Selhurst Park.

Havertz scored the opener for the visitors with a fine finish into the bottom corner past Vicente Guaita, before setting up Christian Pulisic moments later for Chelsea's second.

Kurt Zouma headed in a Mason Mount cross to make it three before Pulisic restored the Blues' three-goal lead after Christian Benteke grabbed one back for the Eagles.

Havertz, who has suffered a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge, showed glimpses of his potential in the win against Palace and that could have been down to him operating in the 'false nine' role.

The Germany international was asked about playing in the position by Sky Sports after the game and it was clear to see that he thoroughly relished the chance.

“Yeah, I like it (the false nine role)," Havertz said.

"I think it’s a good position for me. I have the freedom to go everywhere I want to go and yeah, of course, I hope I can continue like that.

“Of course, in my position, you always want to score. In the last few months, it was not easy and I didn’t have many chances. Today, I got some chances, I think I can score one or two more but of course I’m happy and we’re happy with the result.

“I think in the second-half, I had one or two more chances where I could have scored more goals, but it wasn’t to be and on Tuesday, we move on.

“I think it’s always easy to play with players that have the quality and I know about it every day in training.

"When you win 4-1, it’s easy to say that we are a good attacking team, but I think we have to prove that on Tuesday and Saturday again and then at the end of the season, we can talk about it."

Havertz was then asked if he is in his best form for Chelsea right now, but the 21-year-old wasn't getting carried away.

He said: "After such a game, it’s easy to say I’m at my best, but I have to prove it in more games.

"But I’ll give my best and try to improve and hope to continue like that.”
