Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Wednesday, August 5.
Real Madrid ace can solve Chelsea’s left-back woes
Chelsea have already made up for lost time with Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner signing on the dotted line ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, with more expected to follow before the transfer window slams shut at the start of October.
As well as bringing in attacking players to improve their options in the final third, defenders need to be brought in as the team have had major issues at the back since last August.
Left-back is one area that needs strengthening as the club need to upgrade on Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, with a centre-back also required as Frank Lampard has shuffled his pack a number of times to find his perfect pairing.
And our man Rob Guest has taken a look at all defenders linked with a move to Chelsea and how likely a deal is.
Havertz sends Leverkusen Europa League hint
Chelsea are pushing hard to make Kai Havertz their third signing of the summer transfer window.
The German international is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge with talks continuing between the two clubs in an attempt to reach an agreement over a fee.
Leverkusen have remained determined that the midfielder will be a part of their remaining Europa League games despite the intense speculation over his future.
And if the player’s latest social media post is anything to go by, then that is what is on his mind too.
Who is Xavier Mbuyamba?
Xavier Mbuyamba, a Dutch defender yet to make his senior debut for Barcelona, has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
His agent Carlos Barros said “Juventus and Inter are interested, as are top clubs from Germany and England. Chelsea has the best papers. Of course we discussed this extensively last year.”
And things have moved forward since then, with Goal.com reporting that "Mbuyamba will immediately sign for a top English club on his return from holiday".
