Kai Havertz's message to Chelsea fans as he makes admission on debut-season struggles

Kai Havertz has pleaded for patience from the Chelsea fans after admitting that he has yet to fully adjust to life in England.

Huge things were expected of the German winger after he joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of around £70m last summer.

So far he has failed to show his best form in the Premier League, however, and has managed just one goal and two assists in the division all season.

And speaking to reporters while away on international duty, Havertz said he was well aware that he needed to do better - but is feeling confident about the future.

"It's been a tough season. I know that things haven't been going smoothly," Havertz said." But I think that's normal when you first go abroad. It takes half a year or longer to adjust.

"I think that things are going well right now so I don't want to overthink those negative impressions from the past.

"I am positive and hope that the next weeks will be every bit as good."

Havertz will be hoping he can make more of an impression when he and his side return to action on Saturday to take on West Brom.

But before then he has one more game for Germany as they take on North Macedonia in their third World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

Havertz scored in the 3-0 win against Iceland on Thursday and then created the assist for Serge Gnabry's goal in the narrow 1-0 victory over Romania on Sunday.

And Blues fans will be desperately hoping he can reproduce the form he has shown for his country for his club, and help fire them to a top four finish and potentially silverware via either the FA Cup or Champions League.
