The Chelsea head coach faced the media following the ahead of the West Ham United game and one of the main talking points from his press conference was about Kai Havertz's form and if a 4-3-3 formation suits him.
"I do think it suits him. He can play in it and before his Covid period he played very well on the right side of the eight position. He can play in various positions but consistency is sometimes a good thing and that's what I want to get for him.
"I think the reaction around Kai, when you look and really analyse what has happened here, he has come in without any form of pre-season. He just started to play well earlier in the season and he comes back with all eyes on him because of his price tag.
"I think we must have a huge perspective here. I mentioned that some of the greatest Premier League players we have ever seen have taken time to adapt to the league. They have even sometimes gone away and come back to do well in the PL.
"We all know who those examples are so I am not saying it will take a long, long time for Kai but we have to give him time to settle in on the pitch.
"I am very happy with him and I have no problem with him but Chelsea fans and us must give him time."
Double injury boost
As well as discussing Havertz's best role, Lampard delivered a double injury boost in his pre-match press conference.
Both Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi trained with the squad on Friday and could be available to face the Hammers.
"It's their first day back with the group today, training at a decent level, so I'll have to see how they are in the next few days if they are to make West Ham," Lampard said.
Ziyech confusion
But will Ziyech feature?
There was some confusion regarding Friday's training session at Cobham as while Hudson-Odoi was spotted, there was no sign of Hakim Ziyech in the photographs taken.
The playmaker has missed the last three games across all competitions after sustaining a hamstring injury during the first-half of Chelsea's win over Leeds United almost a fortnight ago.
Upon confirmation that Ziyech did train with the rest of the Blues first-team squad, fans may have wanted to see the attacking midfielder on the training pitches.
Given the London derby isn't until Monday night, there's still time for more training content involving Ziyech.
Lampard said he trained, so there shouldn't be much to worry about for supporters.
