Kai Havertz reveals the one Chelsea player he considers to be a 'hero'

Kai Havertz has enjoyed an extremely productive first year at Chelsea.

Some eyebrows were raised when the Blues splashed £72million on him last summer given they already had the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech at their disposal.

However, the German international has proved his doubters wrong, registering nine goals and nine assists across all competitions, with his final goal of the campaign by far the most important of them all.

The talented playmaker netted the only goal of the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City back in May, latching onto Mount's through ball on the stroke of half-time before slotting it past the onrushing Ederson as Thomas Tuchel's side lifted the trophy in Porto.

The 22-year-old has started the current season as he finished the last, scoring a sublime header against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at Anfield before the current international break commenced.

Now, Havertz revealed which Chelsea players helped him acclimatise to life in west London, citing silky midfielder Mateo Kovacic as one of the senior players that helped him most.

"One of the players that helps me a lot for example was Kova. I had from day one a very good relationship with him", Havertz told the club's media.

"He's a different character of playing football. But I think we share the same understanding of football.

"Before the game, a very calm person and for me this is good sometimes to be next to somebody that is very calm."

Havertz continued to praise the Croatian international, saying: "He is like a hero because he always wants the ball. Even when maybe we concede a goal he is always the first one to take the ball and in doing that he gives us a lot of confidence.

"He is very young and won three Champions League titles. He is a player that likes a lot of movement, is quick on the ball. It's good for a team like us. It's good to have someone like him at Chelsea."
