Kai Havertz has requested that Bayer Leverkusen agree to his sale this summer, according to reports.
The Germany international is one of the most coveted young players in Europe, with his performances for Leverkusen attracting interest from a host of clubs.
Havertz has scored 12 goals and supplied six assists in 30 league appearances this season, and Chelsea are thought to be keen on adding the youngster to their squad after already signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
And according to German outlet Bild, the Blues could be set to act after the midfielder asked Bayer Leverkusen to sanction his sale this summer.
Chelsea are reportedly one of two clubs actively trying to sign the youngster, with the other Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane is thought to be a a big fan of Havertz, but unless the La Liga giants sell enough players, they won’t be able to afford the player this summer.
The Blues are prepared to pay Leverkusen’s €100m asking price for Kai Havertz, but will negotiate breaking it up into instalments.
When previously asked about Chelsea's interest, Blues boss Frank Lampard denied that the west London club had made an offer for Havertz.
“No, no bids have gone in," Lampard said last month.
“He’s obviously a top player, but I’m certainly not going to comment on other players at other teams.
“And it cannot be our focus. So, nothing to say.”
The Blues kept up their charge for Champions League qualification with an entertaining 3-2 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Tuesday.
Goals from Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and substitute Tammy Abraham proved the difference despite Palace responding through Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke.
