Kai Havertz has explained how he can replace what Eden Hazard did for Chelsea after fee 'agreed'

Kai Havertz has previously spoken about his favourite positions on the pitch, amid claims Chelsea have finally made a breakthrough in talks.

Chelsea have already signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech ahead of next season, but Germany international Havertz is rumoured to be the next player to arrive at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and according to Sport Bild, the Blues have now settled on an €80million (£72million) fee up front, plus a further €20million (£18m) in add-ons.

Havertz's potential arrival would give Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard an array of attacking options for the upcoming season, with the midfielder's versatility one of his key strengths.

But when asked in 2018 whether he could even see himself playing as a striker, Havertz told the Bundesliga website: "Not really. In fact, I'm often critical of myself for not scoring enough and missing too many chances that I really should be putting away."

When asked about his goal return that season, Havertz admitted he was more of a creator - something which Chelsea perhaps lacked last season.

In 2018/19, Chelsea's top assister in the Premier League was Eden Hazard with 15 - almost double that of Willian's haul in the campaign just gone, with seven.

"But there are significantly more assists. Right now, I'm definitely a lot better at providing assists than scoring goals.

"Anyway, I'm not really fussed what position I play in at the moment, whether it's up front or in midfield. The main thing is that I'm playing."

When previously asked about potentially signing Havertz, Blues boss Lampard refused to comment directly on the deal.

"I’m not talking about Kai Havertz he’s a player of another team," Lampard said in July.

"I am looking at a game tomorrow that is so huge for this team. The last thing I want to do is talk about a player from another team."

After being pushed on whether Chelsea will make anymore signings, Lampard said: "We will cross that in the summer. The idea of the two players we’ve brought in, of course they are attacking talents and you bring in players like that to improve.

"We know there might be players moving on naturally, players ending contracts and we know it’s something that I feel we’ve spoken about in certain games where we’ve had a lot of possession of the ball and chances created to a high level and we maybe haven’t quite done that.

"I think those two players (Ziyech and Werner) are hopefully going to add to us in that case and then after that what comes in the summer come after the next few huge games for us."
