Kai Havertz hands Rangers boost as Chelsea target 'aims for transfer before Europa League match'

Rangers could be handed a massive boost as Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz looks to secure his move to Chelsea.

The highly-rated attacking midfielder has been strongly linked with Frank Lampard's side, but is currently training in Germany ahead of the Bundesliga team's Europa League second leg against Rangers.

That match is due to take place on Thursday August 6, with Havertz having opened the scoring in his team's 3-1 victory in the first leg. The match was originally scheduled to take place in March, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 shutdown.

Sky Sports are this afternoon reporting that Havertz is pushing for the move to be concluded before that fixture.

Leverkusen are believed to be holding out for £90m, but it's thought that £70m plus add-ons is a likelier deal for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea finished the Premier League season in third after a 2-0 win over Wolves, ensuring they'll play Champions League football next season.

Although Rangers' second leg against Leverkusen is the culmination of a 2019/20 Europa League fixture, Steven Gerrard's men begin their 2020/21 season on Saturday when they meet Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the Premiership.
