Chelsea are close to agreeing a move to bring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are keen on strengthening their attack in the summer window, and have already added striker Timo Werner and playmaker Hakim Ziyech to their squad ahead of next season.
But Frank Lampard's side are not done yet, with a move for Germany international Havertz thought to be edging closer after advanced talks between the clubs for the 21-year-old.
football.london understands that the only obstacle left for Chelsea to negotiate is Havertz's fee, with the player himself understood to be keen on a move to west London.
Havertz has established himself as one of Europe's most exciting talents this season, but Leverkusen's failure to finish in the Bundesliga's top four and qualify for the Champions League proved to be a tipping point for the midfielder, who subsequently asked to leave.
If the midfielder, as expected, completes his move to Chelsea, what squad number he will ask for? Since breaking into the first-team picture at Leverkusen, Havertz has worn the no.29 shirt since the 2017/18 season.
Meanwhile for the German national team, he has worn no.8 and no.20.
So what shirt numbers will be available for the Germany international at Chelsea if director Marina Granovskaia manages to pull off a deal?
The incumbent number 29 at Chelsea is centre-back Fikayo Tomori, but the England international has seemingly fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard after a promising start to the season.
The Blues academy graduate, who played under Lampard on loan at Derby in 2018/19, last started a league game in February against Bournemouth.
But the 22-year-old has not played a single minute since the season restarted, and looks set to be a substitute for Saturday's FA Cup final against Arsenal.
Havertz would potentially be able to take Tomori's shirt - but presumably only if the defender agrees to relinquish the number.
