Kai Havertz can benefit from surprise Chelsea transfer decision as Ross Barkley speaks out

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Latest Chelsea injury news

Chelsea return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace this weekend and will be hoping to bounce back from their penalty shoot-out defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

Frank Lampard has had a mixed start to the Premier League season and collected four points from his opening three games.

The Blues boss is still trying to integrate a string of new signings, and he will be hopeful of welcoming some of those faces back from injury.

Ross Barkley breaks his silence after signing for Aston Villa

Tammy Abraham helped convince Ross Barkley to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal, the midfielder has revealed.

The arrivals of Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge this summer saw Barkley fall down the pecking order at Chelsea despite finishing last season in a strong position.

With next summer’s European Championships on the horizon, Barkley was keen to play regular first-team football in the hopes of earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad.

If the 26-year-old had any hesitations about moving to Villa Park, however, those were washed away by Tammy Abraham.

The Chelsea striker spent a productive loan spell at Villa and told Barkley about his experiences.

“It’s really exciting and I spoke to Tammy and he explained how he loves the club and said how good it is when the fans were there,” Barkley said to Villa TV. "Hopefully they can all get back soon and we can enjoy it. We’ve adapted well to it but it’s not the same without the fans."

The huge Havertz and Mount hint after Barkley’s exit

There was a tone of surprise when news broke that Ross Barkley had joined Aston Villa on loan.

The 26-year-old had played a significant role under Frank Lampard and finished last season in a good vein of form.

His departure, albeit temporary, means that Frank Lampard has sent a subtle message about the pecking order of his squad and his plans moving forward.

Oliver Harbord has explained what it means for the Blues squad and in particular Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.
