Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan win Love Island 2023 as fans beg for format change

Love Island have crowned their 2023 winners - as Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan won the top prize.

The show returned this evening for its final episode, as it was revealed who had been crowned the winner. Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins placed second whilst Tom Clare and Samie Elishi were in third place and Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga in fourth.

It's been a dramatic series of the ITV2 show, after Casa Amor caused some huge carnage for the Islanders and there were rows about fakery, snakes and everything in between. However, it's all over for a few months as the winner was revealed tonight.

However, fans became frustrated by a format change in this series and took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

"Do they not do the “steal or split” 50K anymore? #LoveIsland," one wrote, as a second added: "EXCUSE ME? NO OPTION TO STEAL? Man, f*** this show I live for the drama #loveisland." A third penned: "Sorry why did they remove the steal or split?

"I genuinely want someone to steal the full thing one day #LoveIsland."

There were some big declarations of love tonight as the eight finalists shared their true feelings for one another after the girls spent a day pampering at the spa and the boys got ready for their last evening in the villa.

During the sweet declarations, the newest couple Sanam and Kai spoke of their "dream" time together so far.

"You charmed me with your smile and melted me with your warm brown eyes. I was hooked by your intelligence, values, kindness and you always manage to make me laugh. You’ve made me realise my worth and I can’t wait for us to one day be official," Sanam said.

Kai added: "My time here has been a dream since I met you. Sanam, you’re one of a kind and I’m so happy to have you in my life because I adore you and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us."

Samie had a sweet poem to read for Tom, after being impressed by his offering, whilst Tom had a big declaration to make to Samie as part of their final moments in the villa together, which left fans emotional.

Lana and Ron had a rollercoaster journey but in her sweet declaration, she said he was the person who had been missing in her life.

Host Maya was a huge fan of Kai and Sanam (ITV)

"Ron, when I walked through the Villa doors and saw your cheeky smile, I knew it was you and only you. There has been something missing in my life and that’s you," she said, whilst in his message for her, he added: "You’re an angel that never puts a foot wrong and you tick every single box. When I look at you, I feel whole, like my life is complete."

Tanya praised Shaq for making her feel safe and spoke of her "heart of gold".

"I love the way you care so much, your cuddles that make me feel safe, your infectious smile that brightens up my day and most of all your heart of gold," she told him, whilst Shaq said those three words, as he added: "I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us because no doubt it’s a bright future ahead. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Tan, I love you."
