The Kansas City Chiefs released an exciting preview for the upcoming episode of their behind-the-scenes documentary series, “The Franchise.”
Kahlil McKenzie was sixth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2018. He played defensive tackle at Tennessee, but the Chiefs drafted him to play guard. He spent the entire 2018 season as a virtual redshirt for the Chiefs, training his body and learning his new position.
Apparently part of that training included spending time working Pro Football Hall of Fame guard Will Shields. Take a look:
Shields spent 14 seasons with the Chiefs and started 223 consecutive games. He’s one of the greatest offensive lineman to ever play the game and perhaps the greatest right guard to ever play the game. Now, he’s spending his free time honing the talents of a promising developmental player with the Chiefs.
“He’s so great knowing what we kind of do and then applying his knowledge to it and giving his little nuggets,” McKenzie said in the clip.
McKenzie seems to be incredibly thankful and excited about working with and getting to know a legendary Chief.
With all of the competition along the offensive line for the Chiefs, pointers from Shields could potentially give McKenzie an edge over the competition. The Chiefs can’t afford to have McKenzie on the roster for another 16 games without him playing a single snap. If he makes the team in 2019, it’ll be because he’s made some positive strides and put that elite athleticism to work.
