Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi invited Japan to attend as an observer country the Iraqi Neighboring Countries Conference to be held at the end of August in Baghdad.

“The Iraqi arena has become open to Japanese investments in various fields, especially the fields of energy, oil, electricity, alternative and renewable energies," said the Iraqi PM.

His remarks came during the visit of the Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to Baghdad, according to a statement by the prime minister's media office.

Kadhimi also hailed Japan's support for the Iraqi people.

The two discussed several regional and international issues of common concern.

Also, Iraqi President Barham Salih met with Motegi, during which he affirmed that there is an international and regional shared responsibility to ensure security and stability in the region.

The two officials discussed the historic ties between Japan and Iraq. They further expressed mutual keenness to boost cooperation in economic, commercial, and industrial fields.
