April 22--Windy City Smokeout has a new Friday headliner.
Kacey Musgraves is scheduled to perform July 10 at the three-day barbecue and country music festival located at Grand Avenue and the Chicago River. The "Follow Your Arrow" singer was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards but lost both categories to Miranda Lambert.
The rest of Windy City Smokeout's music lineup was announced in February. Fellow headliners Chris Young and Lee Brice are scheduled to perform July 11 and 12, respectively. Pat Green -- originally announced as the July 10 headliner -- will now perform earlier that day.
Joe's Bar co-owner Ed Warm is behind the third annual festival along with his Bub City partners, Jerrod and RJ Melman. Windy City Smokeout drew more than 18,000 guests in 2014, according to a festival spokesperson.
"It's going to be bigger," said Warm, who won Promoter of the Year Sunday at the ACM Awards, in Feb. "There will be more grounds going toward the Tribune (Freedom Center) building. You'll see a different layout. We've got more space and more BBQ teams. I think you're going to have a better guest experience. We don't just want to be a concert, but also an experience."
The list of BBQ restaurants taking part includes Bub City (obviously), Dinosaur Bar-B-Q, Lillie's Q, Smoque and Chicago Q. Adam Richman ("Man v. Food") is expected to host the Sunday brunch July 12.
