HYDERABAD: Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has threatened to hire 1,000 trucks and dump the entire paddy produced in the state at India Gate in Delhi if the central government doesn’t procure it.
He has also said that the paddy will be dumped at the BJP office and outside Union minister Kishan Reddy’s house in Hyderabad. The threat comes after the Centre refused to procure 90% of the paddy from the state on the lines of Punjab.
“The government is ready to spend Rs 250 crore, hire 1,000 lorries and dump the paddy as a protest,” KCR told reporters on Monday. “While the Centre is still not clear about buying 40 lakh MTs assured to the state, Union minister G Kishan Reddy is giving misleading statements that Centre would buy all the procured paddy. The Telangana government will expose the BJP government.”
KCR met reporters after a four-hour-long cabinet meeting where he discussed the paddy issue and preparedness for Omicron variant. Later, he attacked the Centre and Telangana BJP leaders, especially Kishan Reddy.
He said the NDA government should be shunted out for the sake of farmers, common people and the poor. “The Modi government is acting like a kirana shop owner (on paddy issue),” he said. “In the name of power reforms, Centre is coming up with another draconian law - the new Electricity Act - and insisting that states put meters at bore wells.”
‘What did NDA govt achieve?’
He asked,“If farm laws were good, why did you repeal them and apologise to the farmers-?...What is your credibility now? Tomorrow the Centre will have to apologise to Telangana’s farmers too.”
“What did the NDA government achieve in the past seven years except making ?80 lakh crore borrowings, increasing poverty and making India one of the worst countries in hunger index? Because of their policy, 750 farmers committed suicide. The only achievement of the BJP is destroying social fabric of the country.”CM attacked Kishan Reddy saying Centre did not put any cap on procuring paddy in kharif. “BJP is cheating people...Kishan Reddy should either come for an open debate or tender an apology for misguiding people.”
