Nicholas “Jynxzi” Stewart’s live CS2 case opening session came to an abrupt halt after Steam’s automated fraud detection flagged his account, slapping him with a 72-hour suspension mid-stream.
Why did Jynxzi’s Steam account get suspended?
The suspension was triggered after Jynxzi’s Steam account exceeded the platform’s $2000 24-hour spending/top-up limit. This limit, which is specified in the Steam Subscriber Agreement, is put in place as a fraud prevention system for Steam Wallets. The limit resets every 24-hours, and usually cannot be bypassed, as the system simply prevents you from adding more funds during that period.
Where Jynxzi fell foul of the Steam system though, was due to his attempt to circumvent the limit. Just before the limit was set to reset (24-hours after his initial deposit), a friend sent him a Steam gift card in an attempt to keep the CS2 case opening session going. Steam’s automated fraud detection systems flagged the transaction as a potential circumvention attempt, resulting in an immediate 72-hour account cooldown.
According to Jynxzi himself, he was only minutes away from the reset, at which point he could have continued spending freely and without issue. Instead his decision to sidestep the wait has now cost him three full days of account access. Jynxzi has appealed to Valve on X to unban his account, with no response from the developer as of yet.
Jynxzi’s CS2 addiction continues
This isn’t the first time Jynxzi’s relationship with CS2 cases has made headlines. Earlier this month, the streamer made waves after losing $3000 in a single case opening session. The session also led to him placing a call to a gambling helpline, while his chat reminded him that it might be against Twitch TOS.
Despite the losses, Jynxzi has remained embedded in the CS2 ecosystem over the past few weeks, regularly playing the game and even hosting a streamer-only event following the ESL Pro League Season 23 Grand Finals. He is also set to host a VALORANT tournament soon, continuing a broader exploration of esports titles. Whether the 72-hour cooldown gives him pause on the cases front, however, remains to be seen.
