JW Anderson releases pattern so you can make viral Harry Styles cardigan

First, it was a Watermelon Sugar high and now it's a... crocheted cardi high?

After an appearance on the Today Show back in February, Harry Styles' rainbow crochet cardigan - which certainly wouldn't look out of place in your Grandma's wardrobe - triggered a viral crocheting trend on TikTok.

The kaleidoscopic JW Anderson cardigan originally retailed for £1,250 and rather rapidly sold out, which lead to an army of Styles fans attempting to recreate the piece and filming their attempts for the video app. Styles fans even took it as far as to recreate the woollen wrap on video game Animal Crossing.

But now, Northern Irish designer JW Anderson himself has come to the rescue by providing fans with a step-by-step beginner's pattern of how to recreate your own Styles-ish cardi.

Commenting on the viral challenge, Anderson said: “I am so impressed and incredibly humbled by this trend and everyone knitting the cardigan. I really wanted to show our appreciation so we are sharing the pattern with everyone.”

The best part is that all you'll need to DIY is some yarn and some needles (and perhaps a portion of patience too.)

It's understood that the cardigan challenge went viral because of the growing popularity of #craftcore among Gen Z users of TikTok. In fact, searches including words “patchwork”, “crochet” and “knitted” rose by 78 per cent between February and March 2020, according to Lyst.
