To celebrate its 20th anniversary, online retailer Yoox has tapped JW Anderson to create a capsule collection of genderless clothing and accessories.
The collection, which goes on sale today, takes a look back through the JW Anderson archives and features the designer’s familiar codes of asymmetry, patchwork and craftsmanship.
“We really looked at what we thought would make sense for the capsule and created some asymmetric pieces, a shirtdress and a skirt, and a patchwork trench coat,” says the designer. “Patchwork is a recurring JW Anderson code and I think the colour palette feels very British in a way and Britishness is a part of our DNA.”
It’s not the first time the two have collaborated. Back in 2011, JW Anderson was one of the first participants in The Next Talents, a showcase created by YOOX and Vogue Italia.
Since then, the northern Irish designer’s eponymous label has evolved into an internationally renowned and award-winning fashion house, acclaimed for its playfulness, innovation and inclusiveness.
JW Anderson has also been a champion of genderless fashion since the early days, and this collection is no exception. “I think the younger generations feel much more comfortable dressing how they feel and less about dressing a certain way,” said the designer.
“It’s about making clothes that people want to wear and we’ve always kind of embraced this idea of you can wear whatever makes you feel good, no matter what gender.”
