Juventus stint and controversy - lowdown on striker linked with Nottingham Forest transfer

The latest transfer rumour has seen Nottingham Forest linked with a move for striker Mbaye Diagne this summer.

Reports in Turkey say that the Reds are ready to make an offer for the 28-year-old during this summer’s transfer window.

Diagne is currently on loan at Belgian side Club Brugge, having only signed for Galatasaray from Turkish club Kasimpasa in January last year.

The forward, who can play as a main striker or on the left wing, was linked with Norwich City last summer before moving to Belgium on loan last June.

So what more do we know about the latest player linked with a move to the City Ground?

Name: Mbaye Diagne

Age: 28

Position: Striker

Nationality: Senegalese

Clubs: Diagne started his career with Italian fourth division side AC Bra, before signing for Juventus in 2013.

He had a series of loans at French club Ajaccio, Belgian outfits Lierse and Westerloo, Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab Riyadh and Ujpest Dozsa in Hungary.

Diagne left Juventus permanently in 2017 as a free agent and failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Serie A giants.

Further stints at Turkish clubs Kasimpasa and Galatasaray followed, before a loan move to Club Brugge this season.

Controversy: Diagne featured in the Champions League for Clubbe Brugge against Paris Saint-Germain in November, where he missed a penalty in a 1-0 defeat.

That penalty miss led to Diagne being fined and dropped by manager Phillipe Clement, after the striker took the spot kick himself instead of designated penalty taker Hans Vanaken.

Diagne has not played a competitive match for Brugge since the defeat in Paris more than four months ago.

International caps: Diagne has been capped nine times by the Senegal national team, with five of those coming in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament last summer.

He is yet to score a single goal while representing his country.

Strengths: The striker certainly knows how to find the back of the net, with 83 goals in 151 career appearances evidence of that.

Given his 6ft3in stature, Diagne is very strong in the air, winning aerial duels and providing a focal point for his team’s forward line.
