Juventus star Adrien Rabiot hits back at claims he is on strike

Juventus star Adrien Rabiot has mocked claims he is on strike in a latest post on Instagram.

The French midfielder was said to be refusing to return to Italy to train with Juventus due to a reported cut his wages by £7million.

He has been self-isolating in his native France since the Serie A football was suspended to to the coronavirus outbreak.

And Rabiot responded to the allegations by uploading a picture on social media with the caption, "When you realise that it was your last day of… strike," plus two laughing emojis.

In a clear jibe at the reports, he then followed his first post up with an image of a medicine bottle, along with the French translation for "Newspaper-TV press" and "Do not swallow."

Juventus' players have already agreed to each defer four months wages to help the club deal with the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis.

According to a report in Italian outlet La Stampa, Rabiot was said to have contested the wage deferral on the advice of his mother Veronique, who also works as his agent.

Rabiot was involved in a dispute at former club PSG and was subsequently exiled from their training ground for a period.

There appears to be little truth in the latest reports, as Rabiot only recently posted a video of him working out at home as he builds his fitness up for a return.

Rabiot now faces a race to be involved in time for the season restart though.

Serie A have suggested they would like to return on June 13, leaving just over four weeks till potentially Juve's first fixture back.

Given that all passengers arriving in Italy must quarantine for a fortnight before mixing with other natives, Rabiot may only get around two weeks-worth of training in before football begins again.

The 25-year-old has played an important part in Maurizio Sarri's plans this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.
