Juventus 'set to propose Paul Pogba swap deal' for Man Utd to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus will ask Manchester United for Paul Pogba in exchange for Cristiano Ronaldo as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to hijack Man City's move for the forward.

Pep Guardiola's men appeared to be in pole position to sign the 36-year-old this summer with personal terms agreed, but United have also entered the race for their former player.

City are still to lodge a formal offer for Ronaldo as Juventus want around £28million for their prized asset if it's a cash-only deal.

The reigning Premier League champions are willing to offer the likes of Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus as they try to orchestrate a swap deal.

And that's an avenue that United could go down as it's claimed Juve will ask for their former star Pogba in exchange for Ronaldo, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

Pogba has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford this summer as he rejected a contract extension from United with his current deal running out in a year's time.

Solskjaer dropped a bombshell at his press conference on Friday confirming United's interest in Ronaldo, insisting "we are here" if he leaves Juventus.

He said: "Cristiano Ronaldo is probably the greatest player of all time with (Lionel) Messi.

"I didn’t think Ronaldo would leave Juventus. There has been speculation. We have always had a good communication, Bruno (Fernandes) has been talking to him. He knows what we feel about him. If he is going to move he knows we are here."

Quizzed about Ronaldo going back on his word by moving to City, Solskjaer responded: "We focus on the ones we have here. Don't want to speculate too much on him.

When you are at United you have to read a lot about yourself. Let's see."

Solskjaer was reluctant to respond to further questions about the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but they kept on arriving.

The Norwegian responded: "(I) Don't want to speculate too much - he (Ronaldo) is a legend of this club, the greatest player of all time if you as me.

"I was fortunate enough to play with him, to coach him... such a tremendous human being as well. Let's see, everyone who has played with him has a soft spot for him."
