Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo sets himself challenge to emulate Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo has admitted he's hoping to follow in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola, who is an 'example' to all coaches.

The former Italian midfield maestro is embarking on his first full season as a manager, having been appointed by Juventus after they sacked Maurizio Sarri last season following their Champions League exit at the hands of Lyon.

Pirlo has been tasked with ending Juve's 24-year wait for success in Europe, having dominated in Serie A over the last decade.

Although the Turin club are playing catch-up in Serie A after a mixed start to the season, with two wins and two draws in their opening four matches, Pirlo's tactics have already drawn comparisons to Guardiola's due to their attacking nature.

The 41-year-old has now revealed he's eager to try to reach the heights of Guardiola's career, with the Manchester City boss setting the benchmark for all aspiring coaches, in his eyes.

"Guardiola is an example for all of us, he is one of the best," Pirlo told UEFA.com . "It gave a way forward for young coaches who wanted to promote a certain type of offensive football.

"Each of us has his own ideas and wants to carry them forward, but he is certainly a model for the whole football movement. I like his style of play: always attacking and influencing the game in order to always manage situations. This must be our goal for the future."
