Juventus make Olivier Giroud transfer decision as Chelsea striker weighs up option

Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo has confirmed the Italian giants would be interested in signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud in January.

The French striker has scored eight goals in his last seven games in all competitions but was an unused substitute as the Blues were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Gametime for Giroud has been a hot topic over recent weeks after the striker hit a rich vein of form but his future has always been a big question mark in west London.

The 34-year-old has started only four games in the Premier League this season as the mis-firing Timo Werner has been preferred by manager Frank Lampard, while Tammy Abraham has also been included.

Juventus, who are currently fifth in Serie A with a game in hand over leaders AC Milan, have struggled in front of goal this season as they struggle to keep their stranglehold on the Scudetto under first year boss and former player Pirlo.

Chelsea: 2020 in review

The Juve manager was asked about Giroud after Juventus beat Udinese 4-1 on Sunday in the league and told DAZN: "He'd be handy!

"The window opens tomorrow [Monday], we already discussed with the club what we want to do and if there are any opportunities.

“Maybe a striker that can rotate with our strikers."

Giroud had six months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge but recently admitted he would like to see out the season in the capital before deciding on his next step.

With this summer’s European Championships fast closing in, Giroud is eyeing a spot in Dider Deschamps’ France squad but his national team boss also said earlier this season the striker should move on to find regular game time.

Giroud said last week: “Obviously, I am very happy with these numbers. I am the happiest man when I am on the pitch,” he said.

“We will see what happens in the next few months but I just want to keep my efficiency high. When I am not on the pitch, I just try to be a part of the team.

"I really want the best for this team and I really believe we have a big opportunity to win something at Chelsea with this great squad. I will just carry on like this and try to keep it up.”
