Juventus make first bid to Ajax for top transfer target Matthijs de Ligt

Juventus have reportedly made their first formal bid for defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The Serie A side have emerged as the front-runners to land the Dutch youngster after a summer transfer battle that has rumbled on.

Turin is believed to be the preferred destination for De Ligt following talks between agent Mino Raiola and a range of clubs.

But according to Sky Sport Italia , Juventus have tabled an offer which falls well short of Ajax's €75 million asking price and the figure offered by Paris Saint-Germain.

Their first offer is believed to be worth €55 million plus another €10 million in add-ons.

Despite their low-ball offer, Juventus still seem likely to land their man once they establish how flexible Ajax are on their asking price.

Manchester United and Barcelona appear to have dropped out of the race for the centre-back after his financial demands increased.

PSG have not totally ended their interest but seem unlikely to sign De Ligt, who appears destined to link up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.

It has been reported that De Ligt demanded a £134m exit clause as part of his contract - which would be prohibited in France and put his PSG move in jeopardy.

They have now turned their attentions to alternative targets, such as Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, whilst his conduct spark outrage from former World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry.

He told RMC Sport : "What is the idea? What is happening in your head? 12, 13, 14 or 15 million euros?

"At some point, what changes? You will have one more car, 50m² more in the apartment, 10 meters more for your boat.

"If it is a purely financial option, I stop, that makes me want to throw up.

"De Ligt, he's excellent, he's very good, but with a mentality like that, it will not last, it's not possible."
