Juventus legend Lilian Thuram offers encouraging update on Pep Guardiola rumours

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is unlikely to leave the club this summer to join Juventus, according to former defender Lilian Thuram.

Reports in Italy had linked Guardiola with the vacant manager's job at Juve after Max Allegri announced his departure.

The speculation has not gone away, despite figures within City denying the reports had any truth to them, while Guardiola himself had dismissed talk of his immediate future lying away from the Etihad on multiple occasions.

But now Thuram, who made 144 appearances for the club between 2001-2006, says he cannot see Guardiola joining the club - hopefully spelling an end to the links.

He  said: “Guardiola is a great manager, but I think he’s not going to leave Manchester City honestly.

“Juventus always had great managers and I think football is wonderful because you can play it in a lot of ways.

“You can win playing with the style of Guardiola or with the style of [Jurgen] Klopp. They have different styles.

“Juve won a lot of titles in Serie A in a row thanks to a really good manager. And I’m sure the next manager of Juventus will be another great one. The club know what to do as always.”

Guardiola has two years left on his City contract, and has previously indicated his intention to honour them.
