Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero makes Liverpool Champions League prediction

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero is backing Manchester City to claim this season’s Champion League - because Liverpool will be too busy focusing on the Premier League.

The Reds, of course, claimed their sixth European Cup last season after beating Tottenham in the final in Madrid.

City and Liverpool have both successfully navigated their way through the group stages of this year’s competition and are currently the two favourites to go all the way with the bookies.

But Del Piero is backing Pep Guardiola’s side to lift their first European Cup ahead of the Reds as he believes Jurgen Klopp’s men will be focusing on ending their 30-year wait for a league title.

"I still believe that Manchester City have a real chance,” the Italian told ESPN. "So many years they came close - VAR one year, VAR the next year and it didn't happen.

"I think we'll have a great idea after the next round. There are some changes, in the market and with coaches, some can make you better but most of the time nothing changes much.

"Liverpool still have a big chance because I love Klopp and the way he manages the team. But I think they will be busy with the league."

And when asked who he'd put his money on this season, he replied: "City - I'll go with City."
