Juventus defender Daniele Rugani tests positive for coronavirus and put into isolation

Defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus and is currently in isolation.

The Juventus FC player was reportedly diagnosed on Wednesday evening, shortly before the Italian club confirmed the news on their website.

It is believed that anyone who has come into contact with Rugani will also be instructed to isolate themselves, which could include staff, coaches and other players.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the club said: "The footballer, Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic.

"Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him."

Juventus played behind closed doors in their latest league match after an outbreak of the virus spread across Italy.

Serie A, was then postponed until April after over 12,000 people were diagnosed with the virus, with the death toll rising from 196 to 827 on March 11.

The Italian side are due to face French outfit Lyon at home in their second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie but it is not yet known if it will follow a handful of fixtures in the competition also played behind closed doors.

On Monday, March 9, the Italian government banned its 62 million people from all travel unless for work or health reasons.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte also asked people to stay mainly at home and praised his residents for responding well to advice.
