Juventus considering the sale of Gonzalo Higuain following Cristiano Ronaldo arrival, club chief confirms

Juventus are considering selling Gonzalo Higuain in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in Turin, the club’s general manager has confirmed.

This comes amid reports linking the forward – who arrived from Napoli two years ago for a then record fee of €90m – to the likes of AC Milan and Chelsea.

With Ronaldo among their ranks, general manager Beppe Marotta has now admitted that Higuain’s future at the club is no longer as clear as it once was.

“He is still an important player for us, but now we obviously have greater competition [up front], but he is a professional and we are evaluating his future together with the people who represent him,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. “We have a great deal of respect for him.”

Higuain has scored 55 goals for Juventus across the past two seasons, making him one of the most prolific strikers in Serie A.

The Italian champions are likely to set an asking price of €60m for the Argentine, which may deter AC Milan who recently breached Uefa’s financial fair play (FFP) rules and were only reinstated to the Europa League following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“We respect the Financial Fair Play; we won’t make crazy signings [and] everything will be done with intelligence,” Milan technical director Leonardo said on Thursday. “We are bound to FFP. I don’t think it will be possible to make huge signings.”

As for Chelsea, their chances of signing Higuain rest on Alvaro Morata’s own future at Stamford Bridge. After a disappointing first season, the Spaniard's position at the club is now under scrutiny.
