Max Allegri to leave Juventus at end of season

Juventus have confirmed that manager Massimiliano Allegri will leave the club this summer.

The 51-year-old has been in charge of the Turin giants since joining from fellow Serie A heavyweights AC Milan in 2014.

In that time, he has won five consecutive Serie A titles, as well as the Coppa Italia four times, with this season being the first of his reign in which they did not secure a domestic double.

Despite that success on home soil, Allegri fell just short of capturing Europe’s biggest club prize, losing two Champions League finals – against Barcelona in 2015 and Real Madrid in 2017.

A statement on the club's website said: "Massimiliano Allegri will not sit on the bench of Juventus in the next season 2019-2020.

“The coach and the President, Andrea Agnelli, will meet together the media at the press conference, which will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 18, at 14 o'clock at the conference room Dell'allianz Stadium.”

The Italian was one of several coaches known to be on Manchester United’s shortlist following Jose Mourinho’s departure in December, and was thought to be open to a move to the Premier League.

However, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was United’s preferred option, before they eventually decided to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the permanent job following his successful spell as interim boss.

Allegri was also interested in succeeding Arsene Wenger as Arsenal boss last summer, but a lack of transfer funds is believed to have dissuaded him from leaving Turin.
