Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri drops Merih Demiral bombshell over Arsenal transfer hopes

Arsenal transfer target Merih Demiral may have suffered a serious injury blow, amid links with a move to the Premier League.

The Juventus defender went off injured in the first half of the Serie A clash with Roma, having scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win for the Italian champions.

Demiral, who has been linked with Arsenal , Everton, Leicester City and Manchester City, was stretchered off inside 20 minutes, having landed awkwardly after jumping for a header.

He had initially looked to be in serious pain, and Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri provided an update on his situation after the game.

Premier League transfer round-up: Gunners and Man Utd eye up Cavani

"Demiral has a sprain and we won't know any more until tomorrow morning," the former Chelsea head coach said.

"However, the sensation we have is that it might be a serious injury."

That would come as a huge blow to Demiral and Juventus, with Giorgio Chiellini already ruled out until at least next month with a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in the summer.

But Demiral's injury could also come as a big blow to any of the Premier League clubs' hopes of signing the Turkish centre-back in January.

Arsenal have injury problems of their own in defence, with Calum Chambers suffering a serious knee injury recently.
