Juventus agree blockbuster £72.5m transfer with Barcelona for midfielder Arthur

Juventus are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market amid the uncertain economic climate.

The Serie A giants have reportedly agreed a £72.5million fee for Barcelona midfielder Arthur, according to Sky Sports.

Maurizio Sarri sees the Brazilian international as the perfect player to which he can build his team around in Turin.

Arthur is still to be convinced though, having already admitted he would prefer to remain with his current employers.

The staggering fee is not the only big sum Juventus have tabled, with Arthur also being offered a contract worth £4.5m a year - an increase on what he is on at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are said to be in discussions over signing Juventus' Miralem Pjanic, who could yet move in the other direction.

As it stands the two clubs are some way off agreeing a fee for Pjanic though.

Juventus are demanding in the region of £63.4m for the 30-year-old Bosnian, but Barca do not feel he is as close in value to relative youngster Arthur.

At 23, Arthur is deemed as an investment for the future, and he also possesses significant sell-on value, whereas Barca would be unlikely to recoup much of the cash they spend on Pjanic as he enters the latter stages of his career.

Juventus director Fabio Paratici said: "We have spoken frequently with Barcelona, but at this moment all the teams are playing important games, so we preferred to bypass this period.

"It's not about June 30, before or after, but about finding an agreement between the various parties, and both players have to be convinced. Therefore, it's not an issue about dates."

Barca are willing to allow Arthur to leave the club in order to fund their own moves in the transfer market this summer.

Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic are among the high-profile players also up for sale.
