Justin Upton's walk-off homer lifts Tigers to 12-11 win over Twins

DETROIT _ Justin Upton hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 12-11 walk-off win Saturday at Comerica Park.

The Tigers trailed, 11-7, in the eighth but scored three times in the inning. Nick Castellanos scored when James McCann grounded into a fielder's choice and Jose Iglesias added a two-run home run.

McCann finished 2 for 4 with a grand slam in the first inning, a career-high five RBIs and two runs scored.

The Twins had the bases loaded with two outs but Shane Greene struck out Miguel Sano to keep it a one-run game.

Miguel Cabrera (1 for 3) left the game in the seventh inning with lower back tightness and is day to day.

The Twins scored five runs in the third and two more in the fourth off Jordan Zimmermann. He gave up seven runs on eight hits over 31/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one.

Zimmermann has allowed 17 runs on 21 hits and 10 walks over 112/3 innings against the Twins this season.

The Tigers gave Zimmermann a five-run lead in the first inning.

An infield single by Castellanos allowed Mikie Mahtook to score in the first. Jose Berrios loaded the bases with a walk to Victor Martinez and McCann followed with a grand slam to left-center. It was McCann's second career grand slam and his 11th home run of the season.

Zimmermann gave up a three-run double to Joe Mauer and then a two-out, two-run home run to Eddie Rosario in the third inning.

The Twins scored twice in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. Byron Buxton led off with a home run to right-center. Brian Dozier hit an RBI single to left to score Jorge Polano.

Zimmermann, who signed a five-year, $110 million deal with the Tigers in November 2015, has a 5.62 ERA over 23 starts this season.

The Tigers cut the deficit to 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth. McCann, who led off with a double, scored on when Iglesias grounded into a fielder's choice.

The Twins regained the two-run cushion in the fifth inning. Lefty Daniel Stumpf gave up an RBI single to left to Jason Castro.

Mauer added a two-run home run off Edward Mujica and Buxton hit a sacrifice fly to score Sano in the sixth as the Twins went ahead, 11-6.

Mahtook hit a triple to right and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Upton in the seventh.

Mahtook finished 3 for 5 and has a streak of five games with at least two hits. Upton finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
