Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken part in a quick-fire 60 second challenge in which he reveals that he is a serious Star Wars fan, that he can recite poetry – and he may have even revealed his 'porn star name'.
The newly-elected leader took part in the light-hearted challenge for Canadian magazine McClean’s ahead of a more serious event for the publication later this week, in which he will answer Canadian citizens’ questions in an end of year town hall interview that will be broadcast live.
Here’s what we learned from his 60 second challenge:
1. He knows his poetry
Trudeau was asked to recite the first line of poetry he can think of and he came up with a line from the play Cyrano De Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. He quotes from Cyrano’s “Non, merci!” soliloquy: “…chanter,
“Rêver, rire, passer, être seul, être libre,
“Avoir l’œil qui regarde bien, la voix qui vibre…”
Translated, the line is: “…to sing,
“To dream, to laugh, to move on, to be free, on my own…”
2. He’s a Star Wars fan – and a big kid at heart
Trudeau admits one of his son’s Star Wars toys actually became one of his own toys: “I gave Xavier the Millennium Falcon Lego when he was too young so I got to build it.”
3. He’s diplomatic
When asked to choose between Nova Scotia and British Columbia, Canada’s eastern and western most provinces, he gave a cool “no chance I’m answering that”. He also got out of the “Mercedes Benz 300SL or Toyota Prius?” question with the answer that he prefers to walk whenever he can.
4. He can cook
Well, he can scramble eggs, at least.
5. His favourite French word is ‘topinambour’
…which is the French word for a Jerusalem artichoke.
6. He may have revealed his ‘porn star name’
Trudeau was asked what his first pet was called, which was Smokey, but then he offered up the street name he lived on – Sussex – completely unprompted. “Put the two together” is what Maclean’s told its readers, linking to an information page about creating a traditional porn star name, which is the name of your first pet plus the name of the first street you lived on.
7. And his second favourite Justin is Justin Timberlake
“He’s a real JT.”
