Justin Timberlake 'pushed' for Janet Jackson's Super Bowl mishap to 'outdo' Britney Spears

Janet Jackson's former stylist claims Justin Timberlake 'pushed' for her infamous wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl in 2004.

The Cry Me A River singer reportedly wanted to 'outdo' his former girlfriend Britney Spears, according to Wayne Scot Lukas, who prepped Janet's look for the performance at the time.

Wayne told Page Six that Justin 'wanted a reveal' after pop stars Britney, Madonna and Christina Aguilera shared a scandalous kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2003.

Justin "insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal," said Wayne in the new interview.

The stylist went on to claim the 'original concept' was for Janet to come on stage wearing a pearl G-string, inspired by Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City.

He told the publication: "Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and [Justin] was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her butt in this pearl G-string. But the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic."

Wayne said that Justin "famously labeled the incident a 'wardrobe malfunction'" after it happened.

He added: "I wouldn't call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do."

However, a source close to the situation has claimed when speaking to The Mirror that Lukas' allegations are "not true" and it is "odd" that the stylist is claiming this now "to sell a book".

In recent weeks, Justin apologised to Janet and his ex-girlfriend Britney for the backlash he faced over his treatment of Britney following their split in 2002.

His recent apology urged Wayne to open up about the moment at the Super Bowl, and he claims Justin and Janet 'made their peace a long time ago' and that she has already forgiven him.

The Mirror has contacted Justin's representative for comment.
