Justin Timberlake has apologised to wife Jessica Biel after he was pictured holding hands with a co-star.

The singer and actor was snapped hand-in-hand with Alisha Wainwright during a break from filming the upcoming movie Palmer in New Orleans.

Timberlake, 38, has now apologised to Biel, 37, and insisted nothing happened between him and Wainwright.

He wrote on Instagram: “A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement – but let me be clear – nothing happened between me and my costar.

“I drank way too much that night and I regret my behaviour. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son.

“I apologise to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.”

Timberlake and Biel tied the knot in October 2012 and share four-year-old son Silas.

He and Wainwright, 30 - who play lovers in the Fisher Stevens drama - were pictured at a bar last month.

A spokesperson for Wainwright then shut down romance speculation.

Speaking to Us Weekly, they said: “There is no validity to this speculation. They are working on a project together.”

Another source told People, “The video may look a way, but literally it was nothing. It was some friends, members of the team, crew and people like that.

“They all know each other and were hanging. Like come on, they’re on an open balcony in New Orleans and he’s famous. It was nothing."
