Justin Theroux isn’t leaving his divorce to the public’s imagination.
The “Leftovers” star is weighing in on the rumors surrounding his 2018 divorce from Jennifer Aniston. They didn’t part ways, he told Esquire, because she wanted to live in Los Angeles and he in New York.
“That’s a narrative that is not true, for the most part,” Theroux, 49, told the magazine for its latest cover story, published Wednesday.
“Look, people create narratives that make themselves feel better or simplify things for them,” continued the “False Positive” star. “That whole, ‘This person likes rock ‘n’ roll, that person likes jazz. Of course!’ That’s just not the case.”
The most the “Six Feet Under” alum would offer was that the public’s view on the couple’s end was “an oversimplification.”
Theroux, now single, and the “Friends” star, 52, reportedly met on the “Tropic Thunder” set and struck up a relationship after completing filming on the comedy, “Wanderlust.”
The two, who still wish each other happy birthday on social media, have “remained friends,” the Emmy winner confirmed.
“We don’t talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text,” he said, noting the pair “didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. ... We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard.”
Noting that severing contact “would be a loss” for him, Theroux said that he does “like to think the same” for Aniston.
