Justin Simmons leads all NFL defenders in consecutive snaps since 2018

Denver Broncos free safety Justin Simmons literally does not leave the field. Whether it’s a running situation or passing situation, Denver’s coaching staff wants Simmons in on defense.

Dating back to last season, Simmons has played 1,582 consecutive snaps. That’s the longest active streak in the league among defenders.

Simmons (6-2, 202 pounds) was selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Boston College. He’s set to become a free agent in 2020 and if coach Vic Fangio has anything to say about it, Simmons will get a contract extension.

“I’ve liked him early on from getting here,” Fangio said during his Monday press conference. “I do like Justin, I think he’s a really good player and I see a bright future for him in a Broncos uniform.”

Simmons will have earned just over $4.7 million on his rookie deal by the end of this year, according to Spotrac.com. He will probably be paid more than that in the first year alone of his next contract.

Through nine games this season, Simmons has totaled 53 tackles and two interceptions. The 25-year-old safety has also broken up nine passes.
