Justin Simmons’ franchise tag number becomes clearer after NFL sets salary cap

NFL players voted to approve a new CBA on Sunday. After that, the league announced its salary cap number for the 2020 season.

After learning of the new $198.2 million salary cap, former NFL agent Joel Corry tweeted his franchise tag projections for this season. Corry predicts that safeties will earn $11.441 million if tagged this year.

The Broncos used their franchise tag on safety Justin Simmons so if the team does not agree to a multi-year contract extension with him, Simmons will have a cap hit worth about $11.441 million in 2020.

Denver hopes to reach a long-term agreement with Simmons so his cap hit may end up changing between now and mid-July. The Broncos are projected to have around $38.8 million in salary cap space.
