Justin Layne and Khari Wills receive their first Madden ratings

It is an annual pastime in the NFL. Players are drafted out of college, join their squads, then EA Sports attempts to quantify these players via their player rating system. The newest crop of rankings was revealed this week, and Michigan State rookies Khari Willis and Justin Layne received their first ratings.

Before I reveal their ratings, I should first say that rookies in Madden are notoriously underrated. Being unproven in the league, they are usually rated in the 60-74 range, probably to not hurt any feelings of veterans in the league, which would also inadvertently bring some heat on the rookies in a league notorious for rookie hazing.

Without further ado, here are the ratings.

Justin Layne, CB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Sep 8, 2018; Tempe, AZ, USA; Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Justin Layne, who was a third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers drew a rating of 69.

Khari Willis, S, Indianapolis Colts

Mar 4, 2019; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Michigan State defensive back Khari Willis; Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Khari Willis, who was a fourth-round pick, received a 67 rating.

Madden 2020 will be released on August 2nd, 2019.
