Justin Kluivert breaks his silence on Arsenal links amid talk of Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap deal

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta will be keen to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window.

However, with the coronavirus pandemic still causing problems for the football world, with matches to end the 2019/20 season being played behind closed doors, he may not be able to bolster his squad as he would have liked.

Finances at the Emirates will be hit, with the club relying more heavily on matchday income than a lot of other Premier League teams.

Arteta may have to offload some players in order to bring new blood in, but there may be one case where he could easily make an addition.

In Henrikh Mkhitaryan he has a player another club wants that could be used as a makeweight in a deal to sign an Arsenal target.

Brighton v Arsenal: Mikel Arteta pre-match press conference

Mkhitaryan has spent this season on loan in Serie A with Roma, for whom Justin Kluivert, a reported Gunners target, plays.

And there has been plenty of talk around a potential player-plus-cash swap deal taking place, with Mkhitaryan and around £20.6million going to Roma to bring Kluivert to the Emirates.

Prior to leaving Ajax for Roma in 2018, Kluivert even mentioned playing for Arsenal.

"If you get a nice offer, you never know," he told Helden.

"England appeals to me: Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea or Manchester United are nice clubs where I can see myself playing in a few years."

Now he has broken his silence on the new links with the Gunners, albeit avoiding the question completely.

In an interview with voetbalzone.nl he said about the swap deal: "I'm just happy with his [Mkhitaryan's] help and hope he and Chris Smalling will stay here after this season. They are top players for us.

"I look up to a player who has already experienced as much as he has. He has had a great career and seen many big clubs. I can certainly learn from that. We talk a lot anyway because we play in roughly the same positions and he occasionally gives me tips or emphasises what I do well. I listen to that because he has experienced it all."
