Justin Houston could be a quality replacement for Michael Bennett at the right price

The Philadelphia Eagles are need of a pass rusher, and if the price is right, the Birds have a chance to land one of the best edge rushers in all of football. On Saturday, Andy Reid and the Chiefs released star outside linebacker Justin Houston.

Houston, 30, has spent eight seasons in Kansas City and has been one of the most consistent pass rushers in football, as he tallied 382 tackles, 78.5 sacks, 32 passes defended, 14 forced fumbles and four interceptions in Kansas City. With Houston in the fold last season, the Chiefs tied for the NFL lead in sacks forced (52) in 2019 but decided it was time to part ways with Houston, who was set to earn $15.2 million in base salary this coming season according to Over The Cap.

Houston has at least nine sacks in each of the last two seasons and finished 2018 with five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

With Bennett gone, Derek Barnett returning from injury and Chris Long’s future uncertain, the Eagles will need to address the defensive end position at some point, and the veteran could prove valuable for a team looking to compete for Super Bowls now.
