Justin Herbert wins Pepsi ROY award over Jonathan Taylor

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was a finalist for the Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year award but it ultimately went to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.

Taylor was one of five finalists for the award along with Herbert, Jaguars running back James Robinson, Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson and Washington defensive end Chase Young.

While Taylor enjoyed a fantastic season that saw him lead all rookies in rushing yards, Hebert broke some records. He set a new record for passing touchdowns in a season by a rookie (31) while recording the second-most passing yards (4,336) by a rookie.

It should be noted that this award is voted on by the fans. The award Taylor will be looking out for is the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, which should be announced this weekend.

Taylor had a strong rookie season that showed plenty of promise as him being the future workhorse in the backfield. The quarterback situation is unknown but Taylor is a strong fixture in the offense moving forward.
