Justin Gaethje shares nasty chin gash photo after head butt in training

Justin Gaethje’s preparation for his UFC lightweight title unification bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov is underway, and the interim champ already has a war wound to show for it.

Gaethje (22-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) shared a photo on social media of a nasty gush opened up under his chin courtesy of a head butt in the wrestling room. It doesn’t appear to be anything that could jeopardize the bout with Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA, 12-0 UFC) which is targeted for September.

If you’re squeamish, it’s probably best to look away (via Instagram Stories):

Gaethje is coming off a fifth-round TKO of Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 in May that crowned him as interim champ. UFC president Dana White has confirmed the title unification bout is likely to take place in September in Abu Dhabi, with the promotion running an annual date in the region.

The cut will certainly require some stitches and care, but the location and time out from the bout likely prevent it from causing any complications.
