Justin Gaethje responds to Dana White over Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch

Justin Gaethje has lashed out at Dana White following the UFC president's comments over a potential rematch between champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor .

The two faced off in 2018, which was McGregor's final fight, and Nurmagomedov came out on top after he applied a neck crank and the Irishman submitted.

McGregor is set to take on 'Cowboy' Donald Cerrone in January, with Nurmagomedov facing Tony Ferguson in April, and speaking to BT Sport recently White said: "If Conor can get through 'Cowboy' and if Khabib can get through Tony, then we'd be looking at a rematch between Conor and Khabib down the line here pretty soon."

Gaethje was not at all happy with those comments, and tweeted to say: "Lol at Dana White 'if Conor gets through Cowboy'... what a crock of s***"

The news would mean Gaethje would struggle to get a shot at the title, although he recently insisted he did not mind feeling like the odd man out.

"I don't see it like that," Gaethje said. "I think I’m the next guy in line. The title fight is set, and somebody needs to fight the winner of that fight. So that’s me. I got in this sport for one reason, and that was to fight for a world title."

Meanwhile, McGregor's striking coach Owen Roddy has told fans to expect a return of the 'old' Irishman.

“We’re in camp now, so it’s go time," he told MMA Fighting.

"The one thing Conor has been constantly doing is working on his strength and conditioning – he’s constantly staying in shape and he’s constantly eating clean – and you can see that straight off the bat.

"Now it’s time for us to execute a game plan and go in and do it on the night. I’m very excited to be back working with him, and I’m very excited that he’s back fighting in the UFC.
