Justin Fields named a player Giants should prioritize signing

It’s no secret that the New York Giants will go quarterback shopping this offseason. While most anticipate general manager Joe Schoen will use the 2025 NFL draft to fill the void, they may also sign a free agent.

With only Tommy DeVito (ERFA) under contract, the Giants will need at least two more quarterbacks to fill out their roster and three more to run their rookie minicamp in May.

With that and the unimpressive rookie class in mind, Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports has named Justin Fields a player the Giants should prioritize signing.

The Giants could score a quarterback at No. 3 overall in the draft, but two QB-needy teams in the Titans and Browns are above them in the order. Maybe the Giants could give Fields a chance and then draft Travis Hunter in April. Fields’ dual-threat ability is a plus, and he played some of his best football in 2024 with the Steelers. He’s ready for another chance to be a starter, and will come cheaper than Sam Darnold.

Ironically enough, Fields was originally selected by the Chicago Bears with the pick they acquired from the trade Giants fans will remember as the infamous Kadarius Toney trade.

Fields is coming out of a situation with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he had his QB1 job taken despite a strong start of the season. And so, in that regard, he may desire a team where he is more of a long-term plan.

The Giants may not be looking for that type of deal. They could be seeking a one-year bridge quarterback to a younger star — assuming they draft one — or a veteran to get them through the 2025 season and to the 2026 NFL draft.
