Justin Fields favorite to win Heisman according to Lindy’s

We are getting ever so closer to the start of the college football season — or so we hope. As the days of the calendar flip by, some of the preseason college football magazines and publications are now in full swing, and that includes the annual Lindy’s Preseason College Football Preview.

We’ve already dissected the magazine’s preseason top 25 and where Ohio State fell in its opinion, and now it’s time to touch on where Lindy’s sees the Heisman race going.

And on that note, you’ll probably not be surprised that Justin Fields is right there as one of the heavy favorites. In fact, he is one of the top two, right there with Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

So where does Lindy’s have Fields? Is he the odds on favorite, or is he just a wee-bit behind Lawrence like most other opinion-makers think?

Next … What Lindy’s says about Fields and the Heisman

Heisman favorite – Justin Fields, Ohio State

What Lindy’s says

… we’re predicting this year’s race is a two-man quarterback battle between Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and … Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Big surprise there … the modern Heisman is an award for quarterbacks with top 10 teams.

He (Fields) was stellar in his first season with the Buckeyes after transferring from Georgia, and he’ll put up boffo numbers and play in more big games than Lawrence.

Fields for Heisman?

What we say

There is good reason to think that Fields could take the bronze statue home. He put up some crazy numbers under Ryan Day in just his first year, and he’s had a complete offseason to understand the playbook better. Remember too, Fields didn’t play in many fourth quarters last year because there were so many blowouts.

With a little tougher schedule and a defense that probably won’t be quite as nasty, the games of a conference-only schedule will probably be a little closer. There isn’t the volume of games to shatter records, but his per-game stats should be even better than last season, especially behind a veteran offensive line and a deep and talented (albeit young) receiving corps.
