Justin Fields dealing with groin injury

The fantastic debut of former Ohio State and current Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in the preseason (insert all disclaimers here) will apparently have to be pulled back just a wee bit.

That’s because the former Heisman finalist and two-time Big Ten Quarterback of the Year is apparently dealing with a groin injury based on comments made by head coach Matt Nagy on Wednesday.

“He was a little sore, and Justin is the last one that’s gonna tell you that’s an excuse,” Nagy said. “He’s not going to use that excuse. He was (expletive) off with some of the throws and just the way in general yesterday we were all a little bit, I didn’t think offensively we had a very good day. We were able to watch the film last night, go through it and correct it and see why and stuff. For us, we’ve got to be smart. We want to be smart, and it doesn’t make sense right now to push the limits with him and take a chance of making it more sore.”

If there’s some good news to this, it appears as though the groin issue Fields is dealing with may not be too serious. That’s because Nagy continued to say that the team is working to be “extremely conservative” with Fields so that he’ll be ready to go Saturday for a preseason game against Buffalo.

Obviously, injuries happen and it won’t be the last time we talk about Fields having to recover or seek treatment. Hopefully, this won’t be a lingering issue that will hamper his ability to show what he can do completely on the field when called upon.
