Justin Fields, Chase Young named semifinalists for Maxwell Award

Well, we kind of saw this coming. Just one day after being named to the Maxwell Award’s watchlist, and one day prior to narrowing the list down to semifinalists, Chase Young has made the cut. I mean, why add him just to remove him right?

Joining Young is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. That isn’t really a surprise either. Fields had been a difference maker at quarterback, leads the country in touchdowns responsible for, and has been named as a candidate for many of the national awards including the Heisman Trophy.

All twenty semifinalists were named today by the Maxwell Football Club.

Ohio State defensive end Chase Young added to Maxwell Award watchlist

What is a little surprising is the omission of running back J.K. Dobbins who was originally on the watchlist when it was released in July. It probably has something to do with the perception of having three players from the same team on a semifinal list that has only 20 players included.

Still, it’s probably a little bit of a slight to keep the running back that is second in the FBS in total yards rushing, third in all-purpose yards, and third in average yards per rush for players with at least 100 attempts on the season.

Congrats to Fields and Young, but I say if a team has three of the top 20 players in the country, you own it yeah?
